Famous Poker Players: Gus Hansen

Gustav Hansen was born in Copenhagen Denmark and began his competitive play as a Backgammon player in his native country.  He is now more famous as Gus Hansen, world class poker player. Gus Hansen has a hyper-aggressive play style that makes him very recognizable on the poker circuit and very interesting to watch on TV.  He is the epitome of the old poker mantra, "play the man not the cards."  It is not uncommon to see him go all in with what most people would consider a junk hand.  But his aggressive play should never be underestimated as he is a very dangerous opponent by any measure.

Gus Hansen gained significant recognition on the World Poker Tour last year when he made four final tables and won three of them.  This made him a little richer to the tune of about $1.5m.  Not bad earnings for a year.

His success on the World Poker Tour has made him more interested in playing some of the higher stakes tournaments.  Previously he only attended a few tournaments, but his success and the incredible earning potential of modern poker has certainly provided an incentive for him to play a little more poker than backgammon.

Along with poker legend Doyle Brunson, Gus Hansen was inducted into the Poker Hall Of Fame this year.
